Saturday Prayers: New Year’s Day, 2019

 In Prayers

First Sunday after Christmas

Let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. Colossians 3. 15-16

Almighty God you have shed upon us the new light of your incarnate word. May this light, enkindled in our hearts shine forth in our lives, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Stay, my Jesus, my body sharing, grow in me, my body chosen. Sleep in me, let your love surround me, I have not been left alone. Wake in me, the world is crying, calling evil’s power to stop. May God’s grace protect and shape me, by the victory of your cross. (adapted from the poem of Anna Briggs)

Tuesday, January 1st. New Year’s Day – 2019

O Immortal Lord God, who inhabits eternity, and has brought us to the beginning of another year: Pardon, we beseech thee, our transgressions in the past, bless to us this New Year and graciously abide with us all the days of our life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Eternal Father, we give you thanks and praise for your incarnate Son, whose name is our salvation. Plant in every heart, we pray, the love of him who is the Saviour of the world, one God in Glory everlasting. Amen.

Lord Jesus, dwell in us that we may dwell with you.

The year is gone beyond recall, with all its hopes and fears, with all its bright and gladdening smiles, with all its mourners tears. Thy thankful people praise thee, Lord, for countless gifts received; and pray for grace to keep the faith which saints of old received. (From the Latin Le mans Breviary 1748)

And we pray on this day, and every day, for the peace of the world.

Almighty God, from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed: kindle we pray in the hearts of all people, the true love of thy peace, and guide with thy pure and peaceable wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth; that in tranquility thy kingdom may go forward, till the earth is filled with the knowledge of thy love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Blessings,
