The Baptism of The Lord – Sunday, January 12th

A voice came from heaven, saying,  “This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3. 17.

Eternal  Father, who at the Baptism of Jesus revealed him to be your Son, anointing him with the Holy Spirit, keep your children, born of water and the Spirit, faithful to their calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

We give you thanks and praise for sending your Son Jesus to be the Saviour of the world, setting us free from the bondage of sin and death and opening to us the joy and freedom of everlasting life.  Blessed be God for ever and ever. Amen.

I was made a Christian, when my name was given, One of God’s dear children, and an heir of heaven. In the name of Christian I will glory now, Evermore remember my baptismal vow. All a Christian’s blessings I will claim as mine; Holy work and worship, Fellowship divine. Father, Son and Spirit, give me grace that I, Still may live a Christian, and a Christian die. (from Hymns Ancient and Modern)

God of life and freedom, we celebrate the revelation of Jesus as the Christ who makes all things new, make us new in Him, who is Lord now and forever, Amen.

In these very difficult and dangerous days pray continuously for peace in the world and in the hearts and minds of all people, beginning within us.  Amen.

Almighty God from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed kindly, we pray, in the hearts and minds of all people, the true love of your peace. Guide with your peaceable wisdom the leaders of the nations of the earth, that peace may be established and abide within the hearts and minds of all people, to the praise and glory of your name. Amen.

Eternal Lord God, the shelter of all who hope in you, set us free from the bondage of fear and distress that we may come to see and know the goodness of the Lord, in the land of the living, through Jesus Christ our Lord, our light and our salvation. Amen.

May God’s Peace live within you, and through you be shared in all the world. Amen.

As we send these prayers to you, our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of all those who lost their lives in the January 7th aircraft disaster in the Middle East. God Bless them all.

Blessings,

nnDnn Archdeacon Ron Matthewman, Vicar General Emeritus
