 In Prayers

Second Week of Lent

I do not glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world – Galatians 6. 14.

Almighty God, whose Son was revealed in majesty before he suffered death upon the cross, give us faith to perceive his glory, that being strengthened by his grace, we may be changed into his likeness, from glory to glory; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Take up the cross, the Saviour said, if thou would my disciple be; deny yourself, the world forsake, and humbly follow after me. For only those who bear the cross, may hope to wear the glorious crown. (Charles William Everest)

Lord Jesus, be the Light in the darkness of our time and in your mercy guard, guide and direct us though the dark days, that we may express your peace and love in our daily living, to the glory of your name, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

God, who made the earth and heaven, darkness and light. Who the day for toil has given, for rest the night. May thine angel guards defend us, holy dreams and hopes attend us all though the night. (adapted from Reginald Heber and Richard Whaley)

The Prayer of St. Francis

Lord make me an Instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood, as to understand, To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, It is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen, Amen and Amen.

The Lord Bless you and keep you, The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you, The Lord lift up the light of his countenance upon you and give you peace, this day and for evermore. Amen.

Go in peace to love and serve The Lord. Amen.

Blessings,

nnDnn Archdeacon Ron Matthewman, Vicar General Emeritus
