Remembrance Day, 2019
22nd Sunday after Pentecost – Remembrance Day
Jesus Christ is the first-born of the dead; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen Revelation 1 v 5-6
Eternal God, who caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning, grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ , who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
O Word of God Incarnate, O wisdom from on high O truth unchanged, unchanging. O Light of our dark sky; We praise thee for the radiance that from the hallowed page, a lantern to our footsteps, shines on from age to age. (Bishop W Walsham Howe)
Monday, November 11th – Remembrance Day
O God, our help in ages past, oue hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home!
Almighty God we pray to thee for those whom we love, who are no longer with us; and especially on this day we remember for those who gave themselves for our sake in the wars of the world, grant them your peace, let light perpetual shine upon them, and in your great mercy and loving kindness, keep us all safe in heavenly places of Christ Jesus. Amen
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. (For the Fallen – Laurence Binyon)
And we pray for the peace of the world.
Almighty God from whom all thoughts of truth and peace doth proceed, kindle
we pray in the hearts of all people, the true love of thy peace. And guide with your pure and peaceable wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth, that in tranquility thy kingdom may go forward and the earth is filled with the knowledge of thy love, through Jesus Christ our Lord, The Prince of Peace and the Author of our Salvation. Amen.
Let there be light, let there be understanding, Let all the nations gather, let them be face to face Open the door of concord, opening into grace. Open our hearts to wonder, hallow the world God made. (From the hymn by Francis Wheel Davis.)
And now YOU go forth into the world in peace. Be of good cheer, Hold fast that which is good , render to no one evil for evil,
Love and serve the Lord, and the Peace of God will be with you. Amen.
Blessings,
