Sunday – St. Bartholomew
You are those who continued with me in my trials. You shall eat and drink at my table in my kingdom. Luke 22. 28-30
Almighty and everlasting God who gave to your apostle Bartholomew grace to believe and preach your word. May we truly love what he believed and faithfully preach what he taught; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
11th Sunday After Pentecost
Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. John 6. 68.
Almighty God, we are taught by your word that all our doings without love are worth nothing. Send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love, the true bond of peace and of all virtue ; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Almighty God your word is cast like seed into the ground; now let the dew of heaven descend and righteous fruits abound. (John Cawood )
Living God, increase in us, we pray, your living, healing, power of love and peace. Guide and direct us how to live and share that love and peace in a world that lives in fear, war and hatred. May we come to know the riches of your grace, truth and love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Wednesday August 29th. The Beheading of St. John the Baptist
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 5. 10
Almighty God, who called John the Baptist to give witness to the coming of your Son and prepare his way, strengthen us by your grace, that as he suffered for the truth, so we may boldly resist corruption and sin, and receive with him the unfading crown of glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
