Saturday Prayers: August 26th – 27th 2017
12th Sunday after Pentecost
Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God Matthew 16. 16.
Almighty God, we are taught by your word that all our doings without love are worth nothing. Send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love, the true bond of peace and of all virtue, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen.
Drop thy still dews of quietness till all our strivings cease; take from our souls the strain and stress, and let our ordered lives confess the beauty of thy peace. (John Greenleaf Whittier)
The Prayer for Peace by St. Francis
Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
Tuesday, August 29th – The Beheading of St. John the Baptist.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5.10
Almighty God who called John the Baptist to give witness to the coming of your Son and to prepare his way, strengthen us by your grace, that as he suffered for the truth, so we may boldly resist corruption and sin, and receive with him the unfading crown of glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Blessings,
