Saturday Prayers: August 3rd – 4th, 2019
8th Sunday after Pentecost
Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven Matthew 17.5.
Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ fed the hungry with the bread of his life and the word of the Kingdom, Renew your people with your heavenly grace; and in all our weakness sustain us by your true and living bread, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see our God;
The secret of the Lord is theirs, Their soul is Christ’s abode.
Still to the lowly soul, He doth himself impart ,
And for his dwelling and his throne, Chooseth the poor in heart.
Lord, we thy presence seek; May ours this blessing be;
Give us a pure and lowly heart, A temple fit for thee.
(John Keble)
August 6th The Transfiguration of the Lord
This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him. Matthew 17.5.
Almighty God, on the holy mount you revealed to chosen witnesses your well beloved Son, wonderfully transfigured; mercifully deliver us from the darkness of this world, and change us into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, now and for ever. Amen.
Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly,
while the nearer waters roll, whilst the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Saviour, hide, till the storm of life is past;
safe into thy haven guide; O receive my soul at last,
(Charles Wesley)
Holy God, we see your glory in the face of Jesus Christ. May we reflect his life in word and deed. That all the world may know his power to change and to save.
Blessings,
