Saturday Prayers: August 4th – 6th, 2018
11th Sunday After Pentecost
We do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Matthew 4.4.
Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ fed the hungry with the bread of his life and the word of the kingdom. Renew your people with your heavenly grace, and in all our weakness sustain us by your true and living bread who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Bread of heaven, on thee we feed, for thy flesh is food indeed; ever may our souls be fed with this true and living bread, day by day with strength supplied through the life of him who died. ( Josiah Conder )
Taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are they who trust in him.
And now, as our Saviour Christ has thought us, we are bold to pray, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
God, whose vision spans the whole world to include the whole of creation, help us to see beyond this moment and to see you in all things. Lead us into the way of love and justice and build in us the Kingdom which Jesus came to proclaim. And may the grace of God be with us. Amen.
We pray for people of every nation, country and tradition that we may all be guided by your wisdom, and find strength and courage to accomplish your purposes in the world. God of grace be with us. Amen.
Monday, August 6th – The Transfiguration of the Lord
This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him. Matthew 17.5
Almighty God, on the holy mount you revealed to chosen witnesses your well beloved Son, wonderfully transfigured; mercifully deliver us from the darkness of this world and change us into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Taste and see that the Lord is good – happy are they who trust in Him.
Blessings,
