Sunday August 6th: Feast of the Transfiguration
This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased, listen to him. Matthew 17.5
Almighty God on the holy mount you revealed to chosen witnesses your well-beloved Son wonderfully transfigured: mercifully deliver us from the darkness of this world, and change us into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art, thou my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light . (from 8th Century Irish text)
Ninth Sunday after Pentecost
We do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Matthew 4. 4
Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ fed the hungry with the bread of his life and the word of his kingdom. Renew your people with your heavenly grace, and in all our weakness sustain us by your living bread, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Alleluia. Ask and it shall be given unto you; seek and ye shall find; knock and the door shall be opened unto you. Alleluia (Karen Lafferty)
Pray daily for the Peace of Jerusalem
Heavenly Father, we reach out to you with a plea for the peace of Jerusalem, the center of the world, the center of our faith. May it be the center of love and peace, the gathering of the nations, as we relate to you and to each other. We pray for places where terrorism, violence, warfare and acts of inhumanity are taking place. Guard, protect, direct and gather us into one great family that we may worship you in peace and live together in Holy Love, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Calm us Lord, assuring us that you are by our side in all the difficulties of our daily living. Give us courage and strength to move forward day by day. Show us how to deal with what each day brings; that your peace may overcome the turmoil of the day; that anger and distrust may be banished from our way of life and that we may recognize your presence in our midst, through Jesus Christ our Lord, the Prince of peace and the author of our salvation. Amen.
Blessings,
