Saturday Prayers: December 1st – 2nd, 2018

 In Prayers

First Sunday of Advent

Look up, raise your heads, your redemption is drawing near. Luke 21.28.

Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and put on the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility, that on the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Herald! Sound the note of judgement, warning note of right and wrong, turning us from sin and sadness, till once more we sing the song. Sound the trumpet! Tell the message! Christ the Saviour King has come! Herald! Sound the note of gladness! Tell the news that Christ is here; Herald! Sound the note of pardon! Those repenting are forgiven; Herald! Sound the note of triumph! Christ has come to share our life. (Moir A.J. Waters)

O wisdom, from the mouth of the most high, you reign over all things to the end of the earth: come and teach us how to live. Lord Jesus, come soon! O Lord, and head of the house of Israel, you appeared to Moses in the fire of the burning bush and you gave the law on Sinai: come with outstretched arm and ransom us. Lord, Jesus, come soon! (Parts 1&2 of the Advent Intercession)

Pray for the Peace of the World

As we draw near to the celebration of the Birth of Christ let us turn our hearts and minds towards Nazareth, Bethlehem and The Holy City of Jerusalem. Pray for The Peace of God to be within the Hallowed Gates of Jerusalem and within our own experience:

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem – they shall prosper that love thee.

It all begins with Peace within our own heart and mind.

Let Christ be Born in us today. Amen.

Almighty God from whom all thoughts of truth and peace proceed, kindle we pray in the hearts and minds of all people the love of your peace and guide with you peaceable wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth that your Kingdom may be born in the hearts and minds of all people.

People, look east! The time is near for the crowning of the year.

The Lord is on the way.

Blessings,

nnDnn Archdeacon Ron Matthewman, Vicar General Emeritus
