Saturday Prayers: January 13th – 14th 2018
Second Sunday after Epiphany
We have found the Messiah: Jesus Christ, who bring us truth and grace. John 1.
Almighty God, your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ is the light of the world. May your people illumined by your word and sacraments, shine with the radiance of his glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and for ever. Amen.
Let there be light, let there be understanding, let all the nations gather, let them be face to face. Open our lips, open our minds to ponder, let all the nations gather, let them be face to face; perish the sword, perish the angry judgement, perish the bombs and hunger, perish the fight for gain; Hallow our love, hallow our holy freedom, hallowed be thy name. (From the hymn by Frances Wheeler Davis)
Thursday, January 18th – The Confession of St. Peter
Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Matthew 16.16.
Almighty God, you inspired Simon Peter, first among the apostles, to confess Jesus as Messiah and Son of the living God. Keep your Church steadfast upon the rock of this faith, so that in unity and peace we may proclaim the one truth and follow the one Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Thursday is also the beginning of the week of prayer for Christian Unity.
Draw your Church together, O Lord, into one great company of disciples, together following our Lord Jesus Christ in every walk of life, serving together in his mission to the world, together witnessing to his love, together in peace within our own hearts and minds, and in unity within your Holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord., the Prince of Peace. Amen.
Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles, “Peace I give to you, my own peace I leave with you”. Grant to us now peace and unity within the Church so that we may become united on earth as it in heaven. And we pray for the peace and unity in the Holy City of Jerusalem; lead us day by day, make us one in praise of one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit now and forever. Amen.
Blessings,
