 In Prayers

Seventh Sunday After Pentecost

The Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor and release to the captives. Luke 4. 38.

Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ has taught us that what we do for the least of your children we do also for him. Give us the will to serve others as he was the servant of all, who gave up his life and died for us, but lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

“And what does the Lord require of thee? But to do justice; to love mercy; and to walk humbly with your God” (quote from Micah 6.8.)

I heard the voice of Christ Jesus say, “Behold, I freely give, the living water, thirsty one, stoop down and drink and live” I came to Jesus and I drank of that life giving stream, my thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in him. (Horatius Bonar)

A Prayer adapted from Jerusalem Prayers for the World:

O Eternal Lord God, Source of all truth, giver of all wisdom, Lover of all people, we thank you for the experience of being related to the Holy City of Jerusalem in this new generation. Grant that we may be humble, grateful, holy people, knowing the things which belong to your peace, worshipping you in holiness and truth. Help us to understand the experiences, the hurts, the hopes, the joy and sorrows of all people. Like the City of Jerusalem may the city of our abode reach out for your peace, may we live with a sense of your truth and commitment, relating to all people in friendship, love and understanding. Lord Jesus, grant us the courage to go forward day by day, doing your will in your name. Amen.

Glory to God, whose power working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine, Glory to God from generation to generation, in the world and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

Blessings,

nnDnn Archdeacon Ron Matthewman, Vicar General Emeritus
