Saturday Prayers: March 24th – 25th, 2019
Third Sunday of Lent
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3.16
Father of mercy, alone we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves. When we are discouraged by our weakness, strengthen us to follow Christ, our pattern and our hope; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ our Lord; we are his new creation, by water and by word: from heaven he came and sought us to be his holy bride; with his own blood he bought us and for our life he died. Yet we on earth have union with God the Three – in – One, and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won. O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee. (Samuel John Stone)
Monday, March 25th – The Annunciation of our Lord Jesus Christ to the Blessed Virgin Mary
The word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; and we beheld his glory. John 1.14.
Pour your grace into our hearts, O Lord, that we who have known the incarnation of your Son Jesus Christ, announced by an angel to the Virgin Mary, may by his cross and passion be brought to the glory of his resurrection, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
A Prayer for the Sevenfold Gifts of the Holy Spirit
O Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me. Grant me UNDERSTANDING insight into the significance and meaning of things. WISDOM to know what ought to be done. COUNSEL your insight and guidance, so that I may be helpful. POWER the strength to stand in the time doubt, difficulty and despair. KNOWLEDGE to know and respond with what I can do to help. GODLINESS to have you mind and your Spirit within me. HOLY FEAR to act with loving reverence, to understand and obey your will. Spirit of the living God let your Holy Spirit rest on me. Amen.
Blessings,
