Saturday Prayers: November 18th – 19th 2017
Twenty Fourth Sunday after Pentecost
I am the vine, you are the branches, says the Lord. Those who abide in me, and I in them, bear much fruit. John 15.5
Almighty God, your sent your Son Jesus Christ to be the light of the world. Free us from all that darkens and ensnares us, and bring us to eternal light and peace; through the power of Him who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
God, whose almighty word chaos and darkness heard, and took their flight: hear us, we humbly pray, and where the gospel day sheds not its glorious ray let there be light. Saviour who came to bring on your redeeming wing healing and sight, health to the sick in mind, sight to the inly blind; now for all human kind, let there be light. (John Marriott)
Thursday, November 23rd – USA Thanksgiving Day
To our American neighbours and friends – we wish you a Blessed Thanksgiving Day – filled with all the fullness of God
Creator of the fruitful earth, you made us stewards of all things. Give us grateful hearts for all your goodness, and steadfast wills to use your bounty well, that the whole human family, today and in generations to come, may with us give thanks for the riches of your creation. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen.
God grace and God of glory; on your people pour your power; now fulfil our nations story, bring it’s bud to glorious power; Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour. (Harry Emerson Fosdick)
Lord God, we pray for the people of the world and particularly for those living in places amidst the danger of storms, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, forest fires, floods, famine, disease, unrest, sickness, poverty and warfare; may the stewardship and loving kindness of those living in peace, plenty and safety help to provide for their needs.
And Lord, we pray for those who govern the Nations of the World, for the United Nations Organization, the Peace Keepers, the Medical and Legal Professions; and all who are in positions of authority, leadership and power to do their part in a caring and just stewardship, of the talents and good things you have provided by the caring hand of the God of heaven and earth. Amen, Amen and Amen.
Blessings,
nnDnn Archdeacon Ron Matthewman, Vicar General Emeritus
