Saturday Prayers: October 20th – 21st, 2018
22nd Sunday After Pentecost
The Son of man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life a ransom for many. Mark 10. 45
Almighty and everliving God increase in us your gift of faith, that forsaking what lies behind and reaching out to what is before, we may run the way of your commandments and win the crown of everlasting joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
You servants of the Lord, each in your calling wait, observant of his heavenly world, and watchful at his gate. Watch; ‘tis your Lord’s command, and while we speak, he’s near, mark the first signal of his hand and ready all appear. (Philip Doddridge)
Tuesday, October 23rd. St. James of Jerusalem
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem
Almighty God, you gave to your Apostle James grace and strength to bear witness to the truth. Grant that we, mindful of his victory of faith, may glorify in life and in death the name of Jesus, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem – they shall prosper that love thee.
Jerusalem the golden, with milk and honey blessed, beneath thy contemplation sink heart and voice oppressed. I know not, O I know not what joys await us there, what radiancy of glory, what bless beyond compare. (Bernard of Cluny 12th Century)
O God our Father, we know that the issues of life and death are in your hands, and we know that you love us with an everlasting love. If it is your will, grant to us to live in love and peace with one another.
We pray that in our daily living you will grant us love and loyalty, in our search for knowledge, true wisdom, in our work satisfaction, in our accomplishments, and in our faith the belief to know that you are with us always. Amen.
Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life” Help us to find in Jesus the way that leads to heaven; the way that leads from time to eternity; The way that leads from things that are visible to the things that are invisible; The way that leads to you, the God and Father of us all. Amen
Blessings,
