 In Prayers

20th Sunday after Pentecost

Shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life. Philippians 2. 15-16

Almighty and everlasting God, increase in us your gift of faith, that forsaking what lies behind and reaching out to what is before, we may run the way of your commandments and win the crown of everlasting joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Hark, hark, my soul! angelic songs are swelling O’er earths green fields and ocean’ wave beat shore: How sweet the truth those blessed strains are telling Of that new life when sin shall be no more. Onward we go, for still we hear them singing, Come, weary souls, for Jesus bids you come; And through the dark, its echoes sweetly ringing, the music of the gospel leads us home. (The Rev’d F.W.Faber)

Open our eyes, O Lord, to a fresh vision of the world around us. Tear down the divisions which divide us, help us to walk forward putting our trust in you. Kindle the flame of faith and trust, so that the darkness may be driven back and your glory shine in all the world. We pray for all of those weighed down by the cares and distractions of the world; by disease or infirmity, in body, mind or spirit, hold them Lord in your holy healing hands and give them peace of mind, bodily strength, and the knowledge to know and love you our Saviour, Jesus Christ the Lord of all. Amen

The Lord is our strength and our salvation, whom then shall we fear? The Lord is the strength of our life, of whom then shall we be afraid? One thing we ask of the Lord, one thing we seek, that we may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our life. Hearken to our cry, O Lord, cast us not away, do not forsake us, O God of our salvation. May we come to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Lord, you are our strength and our salvation. Amen ( Prayer based on Psalm 27)

Blessings,
