Saturday Prayers: October 7th – 8th 2017

 In Prayers

Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost

I chose you and appointed you, say’s the Lord, that you should go and bear fruit, fruit that will last. John 15.16

Almighty God you have built your Church on the foundation of the prophets and apostles. Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone. Join us together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may become a holy temple, acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen.

We are the Lord’s people, heart and voice uniting, praising him who called us out of sin and darkness, into his own light, that he might anoint us a royal priesthood. In the Lord’s presence, day of the Lord’s own making, day of creation, day of resurrection, make us one in you. (John Bowers)

October 9th, 2017 – National Thanksgiving Day (Canada)

In your own country join with us in giving thanks to God for his goodness to you and to all people.

Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices, who wondrous things hath done, in whom this world rejoices, who from our mothers arms hath blessed us on our way with countless gifts of love, and still is ours to day.

All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given, The Son, and Holy Ghost, Supreme in highest heaven, The One Eternal whom heaven and earth adore, for as it was, is now and shall be evermore. Amen. (The Reverend Robert Rinkhart – 1636)

Accept, O Lord, our thanks and praise for all you have done for us. We thank you for the splendour of creation, the beauty of the world, for the wonder of life and for the mystery of love. We thank you for the blessing of family and friends, and for your loving care. We thank you for setting before us tasks which demand our best efforts, and for leading us to accomplishments which satisfy and delight us. We thank you also for those disappointments and failures that lead us to acknowledge our dependence on you alone. Above all, we thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of his word and the example of his life, for His dying by which he overcame death; for his rising to life again, though which we are raised to life in your kingdom. Grant us the gift of your Spirit that we may know Christ and make him known at all times and in all places giving thanks to you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord Jesus, in these trouble filled days, we bring before you the cares of the world caused through our inability to live together in your love and peace. We pray for those injured, and those who have died in recent acts of terrorism and disaster. Bless those who mourn the death of loved ones, heal the injured, calm the nerves of all who are disturbed by man’s inhumanity to others and to the world you have created for us to live in. Lord, grant us your peace. Amen.

Blessings,

nnDnn Archdeacon Ron Matthewman, Vicar General Emeritus
