 In Prayers

17th Sunday after Pentecost

You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich. 2nd. Corinthians 8. 9

Grant, O merciful God, that your people, may be gathered by your Holy Spirit into one great family and show forth your power in all the world; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

In Christ there is no east or west, in Him no south or north, but one great fellowship of love throughout the whole wide earth. Join hands disciples of the faith, what ‘ere your race may be; who serves my God in truth and love is surely kin to me. (John Oxenham)

The Blessings of Harvest

Those who sowed with tears will weep with songs of joy. Psalm 126.6

Creator of the fruitful earth, you made us stewards of all things. Give us grateful hearts for all your goodness, and steadfast wills to use your bounty well, that the whole human family, to-day and in generations to come, may with us give thanks for the riches of your creation. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the lord. Amen.

We plough the fields and scatter the good seed on the land, but it is fed and watered by God’s almighty hand; he sends the snow in winter, the warmth to swell the grain the breezes and the sunshine and soft refreshing rain. All good things around us are sent from heaven above, then thank the Lord, O thank the Lord, for all his love. (Matthias Claudius)

Prayers and Support for Those Who are Affected by Weather Conditions – Wind, Fire, Storms and Floods

Day by day, O Lord, we pray for those in danger and distress caused by weather conditions, our inability to cope with acts of nature, and the problems caused by our own inhumanity. May He who walked on the waters and calmed the seas, who stretched forth his hand to still the waves, walk with us in these difficult days; that we may support each other and help the distressed to see the way forward, rebuild their homes and life, to the Glory of your Name; this we pray through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen.

And we Pray Daily for the Peace of The World

For the healing of the nations, Lord, we pray with one accord. For a just and equal sharing of the things that earth affords. Lead us Father into freedom that redeemed from war and hatred, all may come to live in peace. Show us how through care and freedom, fear may die and peace increase. Amen.

Wednesday, October 4th. St. Francis

Lord, make us to be instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Blessings,

nnDnn Archdeacon Ron Matthewman, Vicar General Emeritus
