Saturday Prayers: September 9th – 10th 2017
Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost
God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself. He has entrusted us with the message of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 54.10.
Stir up, O Lord, the wills of your faithful people, that richly bearing the fruit of good works, we may by you be richly rewarded, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, is laid for your faith in his excellent word! What more can he say than to you he hath said, You unto Jesus for refuge have fled. (George Keith)
We pray for all who govern and hold authority in the nations of the World. Grant us grace to do your will and live peaceable with all people that there may be justice and peace on the earth. Lord, let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.
We pray for all who serve to defend us and keep us safe, give them strength for their task and keep them safe in times of danger.
Jesus, Strong Son of God, the Price of Peace, be with us as we walk through this valley of the shadows of life. Amen.
Thursday, September 14th – Holy Cross Day
Far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ Galatians 6. 14.
Almighty God, whose Son our Saviour Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross that he might draw the whole world to himself, may we who rejoice in the mystery of our redemption, have grace to take up our cross and follow him, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim till all the world adore his sacred name! Come Christian people, sing your praises, shout! if we are silent even stones cry out. Peace was his theme and peace your loving dream. Take up this song into eternity. Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim. (George William Kitchin)
